Columbia man killed in car crash is identified by Lexington County coroner
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck and killed while crossing a road in Columbia.
Jacob Roy Jones Jr., a 68-year-old Columbia resident, died in the accident, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.
At 9:49 p.m. Friday, a 2012 Hyundai sedan was traveling north on Bush River Road. It then struck Jones near the intersection of Ivanhoe Drive, according to a statement released by highway patrol.
Jones died at the scene, according to Lance Corporal William Bennett, with the Highway Patrol.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was uninjured. It has not been determined whether that person will face charges in the collision.
Fisher said her office and the Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the death.
