South Carolina starting kicker expected to enter transfer portal
Five days after he walked in South Carolina’s senior day ceremony, kicker Mitch Jeter is planning to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer, a source confirmed to The State.
Jeter took over as the Gamecocks’ starting kicker last season and has blossomed over the past two seasons, hitting 23 of 25 kicks (92%) while connecting on over 96% (77-80) of his extra points.
GamecockCentral first reported the news of Jeter’s plans.
The 5-foot-10 senior from Salisbury, North Carolina is the second starter said to be leaning toward entering the transfer portal, joining wide receiver Antwane “Juice” Wells.
Jeter was recruited to South Carolina under previous coach Will Muschamp, immediately finding a role on kickoff duty as a freshman. When Parker White graduated following the 2021 season, it was Jeter who stepped into the full-time kicking role and flourished.
If Jeter does leave, the Gamecocks do have options. Currently on their roster is Alex Herrera, who could come back for his sixth season, along with two walk-ons: redshirt freshman Daniel Lester and freshman Peyton Argent.
Also expected to sign with the Gamecocks this offseason is kicker/punter commit Mason Love from Riverside, Missouri, who has twice been named Kohl’s National Kicker of the Week.
