South Florida real estate calendar for the week of Sept. 21

Real estate talks will focus on a range of topics this week — from women who built Miami to the impact of the presidential election on the industry.

Sept. 23

The Miami branch of the Commercial Real Estate Women Network will host the free webinar “The women who built Miami” from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Celebrating the centennial anniversary of women’s suffrage, the organization will highlight women who changed the Magic City in the past and those who are making a headway in the present, particularly in commercial real estate. Speakers include FIU Professor Suzanne Hollander, CBRE Senior Associate Clarissa Willis, BASF Executive Vice President Truly Burton, DDA Miami’s Executive Director Christina Crespi, and Juneau Construction Owner and CEO Nancy Juneau. The National Association for Industrial and Office Parks, headquartered in Virginia, will host the webinar “The coming wave of distressed assets: Opportunities and challenges” from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Jay Olshonsky, the president and CEO of the commercial real estate brokerage firm New America International Global, will discuss conditions that may lead to commercial real estate being sold under duress and opportunities for investors. The Chicago-based Institute of Real Estate Management, or IREM, will host the webinar “The 2020 election & how it may affect the real estate industry” from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. IREM Director of Government Affairs Ted Thurn will moderate the panel, which includes Shannon McGahn, Colin Allen, Joe Harris, and Evan Liddiard from the National Association of Realtors.
