The South Kent Lightning U-18 LL1 are undefeated to start the 2021-21 season.

The Lightning defeated the Petrolia Oilers on Oct. 24 by a final score of 2-1.

A pair of blueliners found the back of the net to help put the Lightning into the victory column.

Defenceman Jacob Hamilton got the Lightning off to an early 1-0 lead in the first period. Trent Smith followed suit and scored in the second period, extending the Lightning lead to 2-0.

“Getting a pair of goals from defensemen Jacob Hamilton and Trent Smith pushed us to the 2-1 season opener. Always a good thing when the D can put the puck in the back of the net,” said Head Coach Mike Pugh.

Goalie Evan White picked up the win in front of the hometown crowd.

“We got strong goaltending from Evan White when needed, and all three lines contributed to limiting any chances against us,” added Pugh.

After a long pause from games due to the pandemic, Pugh said it was great being back in the arena and playing other centres.

“I was impressed how the entire team performed in just our first game in the regular season,” said Pugh.

The Lightning’s next home game is scheduled for Nov. 4 as they host the Dresden Jr. Kings. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Anyone aged 12 and older who wishes to attend the game will now be required to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19.
