UPDATE: Southbound I-5 crash scene cleared near East Sunset Drive; traffic resumes
A collision on southbound Interstate 5 in Bellingham blocked one lane of traffic Friday night, according to a Washington State Department of Transportation social media post published just after 4:30 p.m.
The collision occurred just north of East Sunset Drive. WSDOT reported around 5:30 p.m. that traffic was still backed up at least 2 miles. The agency reported at about 6:30 p.m. that the scene had been cleared and traffic had resumed.
Earlier Friday a separate crash led to a backup of several miles in the northbound lanes of I-5 just south of Iowa Street. WSDOT declared the scene cleared around 4:15 p.m.
On southbound I-5 just north of Sunset Drive (MP 55) in @CityofBhamWA, there is a collision blocking the right lane.
