How Iberseries Project ‘Grinchi and Mrs. Claus Bloodied Xtmas,’ Picked Up by Moira Pictures, Shows that the Rawest Vengeance Can Turn You Into the Ultimate Vigilante (EXCLUSIVE)

Madrid-based Moira Pictures has picked up international sales rights to Spanish-Argentine experimental comedy series “Cómo Grinch y La Sra. Claus ensangrentaron la Navidad” (“How Grinchi and Mrs. Claus Bloodied Xtmas.”)

Inspired by a true story, “How Grinch…” is one of the projects selected at Iberseries & Platino Industria’s 2024 Co-Production and Financing Forum.

In development, the series, with Chile’s Gabi Cortés and Spain’s Andrea Meneses serving as showrunners, is produced by Spanish outfits La Villana and ATM Producciones alongside Argentinian platform Flixxo.

Cortés and Meneses are producing on behalf of La Villana, in partnership with Manuel Álvarez and Joaquín Hidalgo at ATM and Adrián Garelik from Flixxo.

According to the synopsis, “How Grinchi and Mrs. Claus Bloodied Xtmas” narrates the story of Grinchi, a frustrated comic artist, who helps a mysterious woman dressed as Mrs. Claus dispose of a blood-stained sack containing a corpse.

Despite their efforts, the police catch them and Mrs. Claus is arrested. As detectives investigate, Grinchi’s viral comic sparks a movement for justice, turning Mrs. Claus into “The Christmas Avenger.”

Cast include thesps from several countries. Among them, Meneses, María Rosa Molina, Laura Ojeda, María del Prado and Néstor Roldán from Spain, Sebastián Rad and Martina Santacruz from Argentina, Cortés (Chile), Alex Sorian Brown (U.S.) and Heber Villegas (Mexico).

“All the characters in this series are built together with the cast. They are actors and actresses who have worked from their experiences to give life to this universe,” the producers said.

As a prequel to the comedy series, aiming to promote it, they created a fictional micro-series entitled “Pitchin” – in post-production –, under the premise: If there is a short to a long series, why not a micro-series to a macro series?

“With this project we want to turn the way of creating a sales pitch around, turning it into a micro-series that works independently. In addition, we are actively testing our niche and creating a community around ‘Pitchin.’ We are working with more than 200 creators and artists to build this universe,” the producers noted.

“Inspired by a true story that we need to tell,” according to La Villana’s Cortés and Meneses, black comedy series project “How Grinchi and Mrs. Claus Bloodied Xtmas” turns around “a little girl who was abused by a man older than her, a woman who decides to confront her past and her silence.”

“Far from portraying a victim, it is about showing a vigilante who, tired of dealing with the voices in her head, decides to take revenge into her own hands,” they added.

In development, without shoot dates set, the project has gained the support of Tailab Incuba, in Madrid.

The showrunners expect to have at least four different directors on the project.
