SPCA looking for answers after dog found with cracked skull

The Montreal SPCA is asking the public for information after a dog, approximately nine years old, was found in a cardboard box with a cracked skull.

The dog, named "Cannelle" by SPCA staff, was found at the corner of Henri Julien Avenue and Laos Street in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. The veterinary team determined she had suffered a severe traumatic head injury, likely caused by a heavy blow.

The SPCA said the dog was suffering when she was found.

Due to the severity of Cannelle's injuries, she had to be euthanized.

The SPCA's inspection department has launched a criminal investigation into finding out what happened to Cannelle.

“The pain and suffering that Cannelle endured is heart wrenching," said Sophie Gaillard, lawyer for the Montreal SPCA. "We are going to do everything in our power to achieve some form of justice for her, and we are counting on the public’s help to find the person responsible.”

Gaillard said the perpetrator of this act could face up to five years in prison.

The SPCA is asking anyone with information on the case to call 514-735-2711 extension 2230.
