Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Calgary, warning that elevated pollution levels are expected or occurring.

The weather agency said elevated ozone levels are expected early this evening before conditions are set to improve overnight.

Environment Canada also issued special weather statements for Fort McMurray, Fort Saskatchewan and Smoky Lake, among other small communities.

"If you or those in your care are exposed to wildfire smoke, consider taking extra precautions to reduce your exposure," reads the advisory issued at 4:21 p.m.

"Wildfire smoke is a constantly changing mixture of particles and gasses, which includes many chemicals that can harm your health."
