Spitting Image is set to have a double episode special to mark the US election and will be making a one-off return to ITV.

The satirical puppet show, which streams on BritBox, will be covering the key moments of the presidential contest between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

The two specials will be available to watch from the morning of 31 October on the streaming service while the first episode will be broadcast on ITV that evening.

In the post from BritBox announcing the news, the Trump and Biden puppets can be seen in the foreground while their respective running mates, Mike Pence and Kamala Harris, are glimpsed in the background.

Reemah Sakaan, chief creative and brand officer for BritBox, said: “We’ve been excited about the timing of the US election for this series of Spitting Image for months… and it certainly doesn’t seem to be letting us down in terms of material for satire, so we commissioned a bonus episode that we are excited to share with both ITV and BritBox audiences.”

Meanwhile, co-creator Roger Law said: “Spitting Image returns to ITV for a one-off special on the 31st October at 10pm. Halloween. How very appropriate.”

Spitting Image returned earlier this month after 24 years off of screens. It’s already been confirmed that it will return for a second series.
