Springhill prison enters third day of lockdown

Inmates at the federal prison in Springhill, N.S., are on their third day of a lockdown as workers search the facility.

"Basically information has been received that would warrant [the warden] to do so," said Springhill Institution spokesperson Shannon Oickle.

"The inmates are secured in their cells for the duration of the lockdown. Their meals are served to them in their cells as well as their medication and their visits are cancelled. That way all available staff can search the area,” she said.

Oickle says the warden will lift the lockdown when the facility is considered safe.

About 340 inmates are in the prison.
