SQ officer arrested for fourth time in less than a year
A Quebec provincial police officer was arrested at Montreal's Trudeau airport on Thursday. It was the fourth time this officer has been arrested in less than a year.
Nicolas Landry was charged Friday in a Saint-Hyacinthe court with assault and breaking bail conditions.
Landry, a 15-year veteran of the Sûreté du Québec, was charged also in May with assault with a weapon, confinement, mischief, harassment and robbery.
Before that, in December 2015, he was charged with impersonating a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer.
In August 2015, he was charged with fraud over $5,000 after he allegedly submitted false information to his employer in order to extend a sick leave.
During his court appearance on Friday, Landry pleaded guilty to nearly all the charges he was facing. The allegations of confinement and obstruction were dropped.
He was given a 19-day prison sentence. Taking into account time already served, he will spend 16 days in prison, followed by a two-year probation period.
His salary will be suspended while in prison. It will be docked by half when he is released.
Landry still faces the fraud charges from August 2015, to which he has pleaded not guilty. A preliminary inquiry in that case is scheduled for 2018.
