St. Albert jumps to 83 active COVID-19 cases

St. Albert added 35 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, while five more people recovered, bringing the city's active case count up to 83.

On Friday, the city sat at 53 active cases, with a total of 2,068 since the pandemic began. The city added 16 new cases on Saturday, 11 on Sunday and eight on Monday.

Sturgeon County added seven new cases over the weekend, bringing its total active cases to 20.

Morinville has no active COVID-19 cases.

On Monday, the province reported another 545 new cases of COVID-19 across the province with 249 of the cases linked to the more contagious variants of concern, which is 46 per cent of new cases on Monday.

The variants of concern now make up around 27 per cent of the current active cases with 2,152 total variant cases active right now.

The province ran 8,362 overnight for a 6.5-per-cent positivity rate.

There are currently 288 people in the hospital with the virus and 64 of those in intensive care.

Some 608,302 vaccine doses given out as of March 28.
