St. Albert Terry Fox Run a smaller event, but still going strong

On Sunday thousands of people participated in the 34th annual Terry Fox Run in cities around the world to raise money for cancer in Fox's honour.

St. Albert hosted a Terry Fox run of its own, and while it is smaller than those in Edmonton and Calgary, organizers and runners are doing everything they can to make sure it continues.

This year, the St. Albert run needed a new organizer and Cassandra Meunier decided to step up to make sure it was held in the city again.

“I’ve been here in St. Albert for just over a year, and just before I moved here, I had lost my mom to brain cancer,” Meunier said. “I want her legacy to live on, and I’m doing this for her.”

About 200 people participated in this years events. Meunier, who greeted the runners at the finish line, said they make her hard work worth it.

“There’s lot of volunteers and thank to them, this is why it’s happening,” she said. “It’s not just me, it’s everybody else that came out to help too.”

Meunier plans on organizing the event next year as well.
