Stéphane Bédard is PQ's interim leader
Stéphane Bédard, the PQ MNA for Chicoutimi, has been named interim leader of the Parti Québécois.
During a special caucus meeting Thursday evening, the party voted unanimously for Bédard to take on the interim leadership.
"We are a solid team, of men and women, who take the public's interests at heart," said Bédard in Quebec City Thursday evening after the vote.
The vote took place during a private meeting, where all the PQ candidates who ran in the election held a post-mortem.
"The election was harsh. The results were not what we had hoped for or aspired to. But at the same time, what we offer Quebecers is a solid team ... We will be the official opposition," Bédard said, adding that he will remain neutral in the upcoming PQ leadership race.
The PQ lost power in Monday's election after winning only 30 of 125 seats.
Former premier Pauline Marois lost her own seat in the riding of Charlevoix-Côte-de-Beaupré and resigned.
She attended Thursday's post-mortem meeting, but avoided the cameras.
