Staff and guests told to leave as hotel closes

Staff and guests have been told to leave a Stoke-on-Trent hotel by managers who have closed it with immediate effect.

The closure comes after the company that runs The George Hotel in Burslem reportedly went into liquidation.

Its staff were told the hotel would be boarded up by 15:00 BST and they would not be paid, a manager told BBC Radio Stoke.

Tenants of the hotel are believed to be vulnerable and the manager added the news had left employees devastated.

They said the management company has told Stoke-on-Trent Council to make alternative accommodation available for the tenants living in the building.

The BBC has approached the council for comment.
