Stanley Cup visits Al MacIsaac's hometown of Antigonish

Hockey fans from across Nova Scotia were excited to see the Stanley Cup in Antigonish today even though it's the third time in six years the cup has come to town.

Al MacIsaac, the vice president of the Chicago Blackhawks and former St. Francis Xavier University hockey star, has brought the cup home each time.

"This is an opportunity to for me to see my family and to share with family and friends, the local community," he said.

Blackhawks fans got a chance to speak with MacIsaac, who's played a key role in the team's three Stanley Cup titles this past decade.

Hockey players from the men's and women's teams from St. Francis Xavier also came by to see the cup up close.

Forward Nathan Pancel was thrilled.

"It's pretty cool because it's been something everyone in this room has been chasing since they started playing hockey, so it's really awesome to finally see it face to face," he said.

Though he never played in the NHL, MacIsaac won minor pro championships in both the American Hockey League and East Coast League.

In 1986, he won a Memorial Cup while playing for the Guelph Platers.

"Good things happened, but I worked hard. I played professionally but I also got into the business side of it. It's been good and it can happen to you."

The shine of the Stanley Cup hasn't worn off for most fans in the crowd.

"I wasn't missing this for anything. I hope they go for four," said Rudy MacDougall of Glace Bay.

"He's a good guy," Bruce McMaster said about MacIsaac.

"I was at Costco the other day in Dartmouth and his father was there. I was wearing my jersey and he comes right over and says, 'Coming to see the cup next week?' You know it."
