‘Star Wars’ Plane to Take Off This Fall (Video)

Before “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits theaters on Dec. 18, fans of the iconic sci-fi franchise can board an official “R2-D2 Jet” starting this fall.

All Nippon Airways’ “Star Wars” plane — a new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is painted with a graphic design to celebrate the lovable droid, the Japanese airline announced Thursday.

“In the long adventurous journey, R2-D2 reached a unique personality. Highly loyal and whenever he faces challenge, he comes up with an original idea to succeed the mission,” ANA said on its website while sharing a YouTube video of the jet.

The airline has also created an “ANA Planet” page on the site, mimicking the legendary opening crawl from George Lucas‘ classic accompanied with the “Main Title Theme” composed and conducted by John Williams.

Thursday was a big day for fans of the franchise as a new teaser trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” debuted at Star Wars Celebration Day in Anaheim, California after a star-studded panel featuring director J.J. Abrams and new and returning cast members.

The trailer includes brand new footage, mostly of the film’s three new leads, as played by Oscar Isaac, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.

The biggest scoop, however, is the first appearance of Han Solo (Harrison Ford), who’s seen smiling next to his Wookie sidekick Chewbacca, saying rather vaguely, “Chewie, we’re home.”

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be released on Dec. 18.
