Stars' Jamie Benn hilariously calls out referee for his foul language

From an entertainment standpoint, veteran NHL referee Wes McCauley is one of the best in the business.

The 47-year-old zebra has worn the bands for over 1100 regular season and playoff games. In the process, he’s had some legendary moments while announcing penalties and decisions following crucial reviews.

He’s a man that’s always had a flair for the dramatic and you truly never know what will happen when a microphone is near his face.

While his most recent moment of brilliance wasn’t broadcasted live to those at a game or watching from home, it was hilarious nonetheless.

During Game 5 of the first round series between the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators on Saturday, McCauley’s language became a little colourful while chatting between whistles with Predators’ forward Filip Forsberg.

Stars captain and known jokester Jamie Benn overheard what McCauley had to say to Forsberg and decided to scold the official for his vocabulary shortly thereafter.

Thankfully for us, the NHL had the entire sequence of events filmed and released the comedic video on Monday.

Seeing genuine moments like this during games is always fantastic to see.

Even in the heat of the playoffs, I love that Benn is able to keep things light. And while I highly doubt that the native of Victoria, B.C. was actually offended by McCauley’s choice of words, his sincerity while calling him out made for some great content.

Benn’s fun approach to the series against the Central Division champions has been quite effective so far. His goal and five assists in the first five games have helped the Stars grab a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-seven clash.
