Starved puppy weighing 7 kg recovers, finds new home

A seven-month-old puppy starved to the weight of seven kilograms has recovered and been adopted, the Windsor Humane Society says.

Reno arrived at the Humane Society in February, weighing seven kilograms, “dramatically under the weight he should have been,” the society says in a media release.

His condition was due to neglect and lack of food, the Humane Society says.

Within days he gained 35 per cent of his body weight.

Reno will be formally adopted Thursday afternoon.

A Belle River man was charged under the Ontario SPCA Act with one count of permitting distress to an animal and one count of failing to comply with prescribed standards of care for an animal for Reno’s neglect.
