Statement Eyes Are Trending for Fall...But Here’s The One Thing a Makeup Artist Would Never Do

ICYMI: Statement eye makeup is trending this fall. With most of our interactions taking place virtually and half of our faces being covered in masks when we do venture outside, it's time to experiment with more colors (like vibrant blue and electric green) and shapes (think beyond the cat eye). But no matter the shade and style, a statement eye isn't complete without a generous coat or two of mascara.

And though it's tempting to just go for the fancy new formula that resembles a small sculpture and basically promises you new lashes, makeup artist Tricia Turner from NakedPoppy advises not overspending on mascara.

"Expensive doesn’t mean better, especially when it comes to mascara since it has a short shelf-life of 3 months,” says Turner. "Even the most affordable or budget-friendly mascara can do the same (if not better) job in making your lashes voluminous and bold (and your eye look pop)."

From your mouth to our ears, Tina, and in the spirit of savings, we've rounded up some of our favorite formulas below (all under 30 dollars a tube).

A final tip for when you have your mascara in hand: Run the wand over the top side of the tips of lashes first, then apply it from root to tip on the underside as you normally would. You'll get extra length without the clumps.
