The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has released a “Singapore is boring” promotional video in response to a Time Out survey that showed the Republic was second to last among exciting cities in the world.

In the self-deprecating video posted on STB’s VisitSingapore Facebook page on Thursday (1 February), a caption of “There’s nothing exciting to do” in Singapore is shown alongside images of the Marina Bay area, Universal Studios and the F1 Grand Prix season, two days after the British travel magazine unveiled the survey of 15,000 people in 32 cities.

Attractions such as Clarke Quay, Keong Saik Road, Pulau Ubin, Gardens By The Bay, ArtScience Museum, Chinatown and Little India are featured in the segments entitled “Nightlife is underwhelming”, “Everything is concrete”, and “There is no art and culture”, in an apparent attempt to counter the survey findings.

The video also showcases Singapore as a place where “everything is so expensive” with images of Lau Pa Sat and Michelin-starred Hawker Chan’s $2 soy sauce chicken dish.

On Singapore’s 31st ranking in the survey, Time Out said, “The city-state of Singapore was the worst rated city we surveyed for culture, and the worst for drinking apart from Dubai. But it scored well for safety and public transport, and it has a much buzzier restaurant scene than other cities towards the bottom of the ranking.”
