Steve Bannon Hypes Marjorie Taylor Greene For, Gulp, This Key Post Under Trump
Former Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon proposed the unthinkable for many Americans to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.): That she could be the new Homeland Security secretary under the president-elect.
“You’re such a fighter,” Bannon gushed on his “War Room” podcast early Wednesday after Trump won the election. “Now, is there truth to the rumor that you’re going to take over at DHS?”
The far-right congresswoman has previously expressed interest in the job to help Trump carry out the mass deportations that he has threatened. So the notion, as frightening as it may be, was not out of left field.
But Greene, who was partying at Mar-a-Lago during the interview, laughed and didn’t bite.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen, Steve,” she replied. “We’re just thrilled to have President Trump back in the White House because everyone knows what that means. We’re going to dismantle the deep state. We’re going to end the weaponized government. We’re going to pardon the J6ers. That’s extremely important. And we are going to restore peace and prosperity back for the American people. And we’re going to end those foreign wars and we’re going to end the climate change scam. Everything’s going to be restored. We’re so excited.”
Greene has attacked Homeland Security under President Joe Biden.
She sponsored a resolution to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his handling of the border. In April, the Senate voted to ditch all the impeachment charges for failing to meet the constitutional standard of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Lately, Greene has been pushing her new conspiracy theory that “they” — apparently implying Democrats — can control extreme weather like Hurricane Helene. She’s also been regurgitating lies about election fraud.
In her interview with Bannon ― who was just in prison for not complying with a Jan. 6-related subpoena and recently got a reminder from Trump’s team that he does not speak for the president-elect ― she also spewed more of the extreme GOP rhetoric that has a chunk of the nation on edge following Trump’s victory.
“America was not going to tolerate the communist regime destroying our freedoms, ripping our borders wide open, trying to turn our kids trans, and promoting abortion as reproductive rights,” she said. “America is done with it.”
