Steve Slaton signs with Argonauts
Steve Slaton will try and make a football comeback with the Toronto Argonauts.
The CFL club announced the former collegiate and NFL running back has been signed to a contract, although no specific financial details were given.
Slaton rushed for 50 touchdowns and just under 4,000 yards in three seasons of collegiate football at West Virginia, finishing fourth in the Heisman Trophy race in 2007.
The Houston Texans drafted the five-foot-nine-back in the third round in 2008 and he responded in his rookie season with 1,282 rushing yards, second best in the AFC and sixth overall in the NFL.
After just two fumbles in his impressive rookie campaign, he lost the ball five times in just 131 attempts the next season.
While he caught 94 passes over his first two seasons, he lost his starting job and in subsequent years was a reserve primarily used for kickoff returns.
Slaton moved on to Miami and did not play last season after failing to find an NFL job after 2012 tryouts.
