Montreal public transit users trying to buy a fare this morning found STM kiosks were met with an unpleasant surprise.
The transit authority says that roughly 85 per cent of its card readers aren't working due to a technical malfunction.
STM spokesperson Amélie Régis said their ticket kiosk supplier is working on the problem and she projected it would be fixed in the morning.
The STM is advising people to pay for fares in cash, go to a third party point of sale like a pharmacy or dépanneur, or wait a few hours until the problem is fixed.
Commuters at the Longueuil Metro station said STM employees were seen giving away tickets to people who did not have cash on them.
