Stock Markets Today: Sensex Ends Day in Red With 37 Points Fall at 38,370, Nifty Follows Suit at 11,308

Mumbai, August 12: The stock market indices in India ended the business day in red, with S&P BSE Sensex slipping 37 points or 0.10 per cent to settle at 38,370 levels. While, NSE's Nifty followed the suit and ended the day at 11,308, down 14 points or 0.12 per cent. In today's trading Reliance Industries (RIL), HDFC Bank, TCS, and HUL emerged to major contributors for the index's loss; while SBI, Infosys and HCL emerged to gain from Wednesday's trading.

The indices touched a high of 38,414.37 and a low of 38,125.81 on Wednesday before closing at 38,369.63. Out of 30, 17 stocks ended the day in the red. Earlier in the day, the stock market opened lower on Wednesday, with Sensex down by 227.14 points or 0.59% at 38179.87 and Nifty down by 62.90 points or 0.56% at 11259.60. In the opening trade, about 493 shares have advanced, 600 shares declined, and 56 shares are unchanged. Sensex Up 254 Points at 38,294, Nifty Crosses 11,308 Amid Mixed Cues From Asian Markets.

Among the gainers in Wednesday's trading include HCL Tech which ended the day with a rise of 4.75% points at 716, while SBIN rose by 4.25% points to end the day at 203.40. Other firms whose stocks ended in green include Tech Mahindra (2.76%), Maruti (1.32%), NTPC (1.02%), Infosys (0.45%), Axia Bank (0.42%) and ITC (0.32%).

While, the Tata Steel emerged as the biggest loser with decline od 0,13% points at 415.90, while Reliance ended the day with a decrease of 0.33% points at 2127. Other losers were HDFC (0.35%), ICICI Bank (0.38%), ONGC (0.45%), Bharti Airtel (0.67%) and Bajaj Finserv (1.25%). In the meantime, the rate of gold rise by Rs 35 and reached Rs 51964/10 grams. However, rate or silver declined by Rs 265 and reached Rs 66669/kilogram. The US value of the US dollar reached to Rs 74.72.
