Stolen firearm brought to Wascana Park in Regina leads to arrest

Police say a man carrying a stolen firearm was arrested in Wascana Park on Friday.

Officers were dispatched, around noon, responding to a call about a weapons offence.

They said three people were taken into custody, without incident, and a firearm — which appeared to be a modified rifle — was recovered.

Police converged on a spot in the park near Broad Street on a road that winds through the park around Wascana Lake. A familiar lookout point, a large concrete structure, was nearby where the three were taken into custody.

Two of the three taken into custody were females who were later released without facing charges.

The man — a 22-year-old from Regina — was charged with several weapons offences, including:

- Careless use of a firearm.

- Carrying a concealed weapon.

- Unauthorized possession of a firearm.

- Possession of a firearm obtained by crime.

- Possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with.

The accused is set to appear in court on the charge on Monday morning.
