Stony Plain teacher charged with sexual assault of high school student

A high school teacher in Stony Plain has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage student.

James Richard Pratt, 43, has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

Spruce Grove RCMP say they first began investigating after a complaint was made about Pratt in February.

Court information shows the alleged assault happened on January 10, and RCMP say it took place at Memorial Composite High School.

Pratt, who taught construction, was removed from his teaching position as soon as the investigation began.

He was then arrested on June 12, but released on the condition he have no contact with the female victim, who is now receiving support from Victim Services.

RCMP are calling the alleged assault “an isolated incident.”

Pratt is expected to make his first court appearance on July 16.
