Being Black in Nova Scotia is a new digital space at CBC featuring the stories and experiences of Black people in the province.

You'll see stories about African Nova Scotians and their experiences as distinct people with 400 years of history in the province, and stories inclusive of Black people from across the African diaspora who live, work and call Nova Scotia home.

We're bringing these stories together in one page so people can find news stories, profiles and occasionally content from other parts of CBC, such as arts and documentaries. It highlights narratives that matter to Black people and communities, including individual successes and historical content.

Read about the CBC Nova Scotia's community advisory board, where the members' perspectives and lived experiences are integral to informing our journalism.

Learn how Black communities are using community land trusts to help tackle the housing crisis and read about how immigrating to Nova Scotia has posed unexpected challenges and impacted some newcomers' mental health.

You can meet the 2024 CBC Black Changemakers who are creating meaningful change in our communities, and also find out more about the inspiration behind the design at the top of this page, created for CBC by artist Vanessa 'Nessy' Thomas, and how it represents her Black Nova Scotian experience.

As more stories are covered, they will be added to Being Black in Nova Scotia, so check back often: cbc.ca/beingblackinnovascotia.
