Some N.B. residents still without power after winter storm
More than 1,000 N.B. Power customers were without power Saturday afternoon as high winds continue in New Brunswick.
About 1,000 customers in the Kennebecasis Valley and Fundy area were first without power Saturday morning after a winter storm brought up to 30 centimetres of snow to the area.
As skies cleared and snow stopped almost all outages were dealt with early Saturday morning. High winds continued in the province, gusting up to 60 km/h.
By 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon the N.B. Power outage map was again reporting about 1,000 customers without power in the Kennebecasis Valley and Fundy area. The map does not say if those were the same 1,000 customers that experienced the outages Saturday morning.
Environment Canada winter storm and extreme cold warnings were lifted by Saturday afternoon.
CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin said about 10 more centimetres of snow fell in southern New Brunswick Saturday morning, with temperatures that dipped to between -16 and -21 C, and feeling like -26 to -35 C with the wind chill.
Roads were slippery and police warned people to drive carefully and avoid highway travel.
Most travel advisories for highways were lifted, but parts of Highway 2 between Moncton and Fredericton were still snow covered by 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
