Stranded surfer rescued from Morro Rock as big waves hit Central Coast

Morro Bay Fire rescued a surfer stranded on Morro Rock on Monday morning.

At 9:25 a.m., agencies received reports of someone on the north side of the rock in Morro Bay, according to emergency scanner traffic.

The rescue occurred during a high surf advisory, with waves up to 25 feet expected across the Central Coast through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

As of 9:37 a.m. the surfer was out of the water but still on the rock, according to the scanner. A medic was on scene at the time, but all other incoming units were canceled.

By 9:52 a.m., the surfer was off the rock and safely in the parking lot, according to the scanner.

A medical evaluation found the person uninjured.
