Strictly Come Dancing star Greg Rutherford and his fiancée Susie have shared that they felt a “huge” sense of “guilt” after their daughter was rushed to hospital.

The former long jumper, who won a gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics, participated in the 14th season of Strictly in 2016. His partner was Natalie Lowe, and they were eliminated in the ninth week of the competition.

Greg and Susie, who have three children together, are currently on a family holiday cruising around Greece and Turkey. Susie revealed via Instagram Stories that their three-year-old daughter, Daphne, had been rushed to hospital during the trip after suffering from croup.

“So glad I decided to bring her to hospital because she was NOT good,” she wrote (via Metro), with the post including a photo of Daphne in a hospital bed. “What a difference some steroids make.

“Thanks for all your kind messages, I’ve got huge guilt for not taking her in sooner. We’re pretty experienced with croup and aside from once with Milo, it’s always sorted itself out with cold air, drinks and keeping them calm.

“When I took her in this morning they heard her breathe and rushed us straight through to have steroids because her nostrils were flaring and throat was tugging. Because she’d been so calm and chatty with me, I didn’t really panic too much initially.”

Strictly wasn’t the only dancing competition that Rutherford was due to take part in, with the star being announced as part of the lineup for the most recent season of Dancing on Ice. However, his time was cut short following a severe injury, but he outlined his hopes for a second shot on the ice.

“It’s been early-stage discussed whether or not I come back and do one skate maybe,” he said in June. “I'd love to give it another go. It was something I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did, and that was the interesting thing for me.”

Strictly Come Dancing will return on Saturday, September 14 on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
