Strictly Come Dancing star Toyah Willcox has announced a new role following her show exit.

Over the weekend, the singer and actress became the second celebrity to be eliminated from the BBC show after losing the dance-off to Paul Merson.

In the wake of this, Toyah has joined the cast of new musical NOW That’s What I Call A Musical, which has begun touring the UK.

The performer will appear as a special guest star for its Edinburgh stop next February and March. More info (including ticketing) can be found here.

The show, which is choreographed by Strictly’s own Craig Revel Horwood, celebrates 40 years of the iconic compilation album series NOW That’s What I Call Music.

It follows two school friends called Gemma and April in 1989 Birmingham, who are “busy with very important business - planning their lives based on Number One Magazine quizzes and dreaming of snogging Rick Astley”.

“Cut to Birmingham 2009 and it’s the most dreaded event of their lives – the school reunion,” the synopsis adds.

“Drama, old flames and receding hairlines come together as friends reunite and everything from the past starts to slot into place. The biggest question is: what was with all that hairspray?”

Alongside Toyah, the show’s tour will feature other musical guest stars, including Sinitta in Dublin, Hull and York, Sonia in Southampton, Manchester, Southend, Glasgow, Bristol, Liverpool, Wimbledon and Birmingham, and Carol Decker in Oxford.

The show premiered at Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre last month, and begins its tour this week at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal, hitting stops across the UK and Ireland before wrapping up in April 2025 at London’s New Wimbledon Theatre.

EastEnders’ Nina Wadia and musical theatre star Melissa Jacques star as Gemma and April up to December 7, while The X Factor’s Sam Bailey takes over from January 14.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
