YouTuber turned Strictly Come Dancing star Joe Sugg is now turning his hands to TV acting, as he has been cast in a BBC drama alongside two big Coronation Street stars.

The Syndicate, which had three series between 2012 and 2015, has previously starred names like Lenny Henry, Timothy Spall, Joanne Page, Mark Addy and many more, and now it is coming back for a fourth run.

Alongside Sugg, series 4 of the lottery-based drama will feature Corrie's Kym Marsh and Katie McGlynn, while former Waterloo Road actor Neil Morrisey, former Emmerdale star Gaynor Faye, and Stella actress Taj Atwal also join the cast.

As reported by the Mirror, Sugg will play a struggling musician named Sam, who is having commitment issues when it comes to his girlfriend. Morrissey will star as a newsagent with dreams of doing more with his life.

Although this is Sugg's first TV acting role, he has done voiceover work in an episode of The Amazing World of Gumball, and a handful of animated movies like the UK release of SpongeBob SquarePants: Sponge Out of Water. He also acted on stage in Waitress in 2019.

Meanwhile, last week, he revealed that he had to be taken to hospital after a health scare.

"I've not really been on social media's much this week," he explained on his Instagram Story. "On Tuesday, I went to A&E with a suspected appendicitis. I'm okay but just have to rest and take antibiotics, but it's zonked me right out and [to be honest] the last thing I wanted to do was look at a screen or be on camera."
