Struggle with suspect sends Saskatoon Police officer to hospital

Saskatoon police arrest man suspected of dealing fentanyl

Saskatoon Police say an officer was injured and taken to hospital for treatment after a suspect struggled to resist arrest on Saturday morning.

The constable was at a home on the 100 block of Avenue I S., according to police, to arrest a man on an outstanding warrant shortly before noon CST.

Police say he was eventually able to arrest the man, 48, following a physical fight, but was hurt doing so. He was taken to hospital in an ambulance suffering from what police describe as non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the constable has been part of the police service for seven years, and is assigned as a patrol officer.

The man has been charged with obstruction and assaulting a police officer. He also faces charges for breaching orders laid out in a conditional sentence.
