Student surprises teacher with a pair of Air Jordans to say thanks

Hector Montez had a very special surprise for his teacher / Twitter

Video of a Texas teenager’s thoughtful present for his teacher is making a shiny red apple on the first day of school look pretty tame in comparison.

‘Coach’ Thomas Walser is a teacher at Coronado High School in Lubbock, Texas, who works in the AVID school program, which helps students traditionally underrepresented in higher education prepare for college and careers.

One of those students, Hector Montez, decided to go above and beyond to show how appreciative he was of Walser’s hard work and dedication.

In a viral video posted to Twitter, Hector can be seen presenting Walser with a pair of his very own pair of Air Jordan sneakers. He got the idea to gift the Nike shoes to his teacher after Walser once told him he’d had wanted that exact pair since he was only 12 years old.

“You told me sophomore year this was your favourite shoe and you told me your size, but you don’t even remember,” Hector can be seen telling his visibly surprised teacher.

“I’ve wanted these since I was in sixth grade and I never got them,” Walser says as he embraces Hector. “Man, I might cry.”

And although they may not match his pants at all, it looks like the shoes were both a perfect fit and gift that Walser won’t be forgetting about anytime soon.

And it also looks like all that good karma even made its way back to Hector in the end.

Not long after the video of his kind gesture went viral, Hector received a special package in the mail straight from Nike. Inside was a pair of his very own Air Jordans with a note from congratulating him for a job well done.

“Your teacher inspired you. You inspired us. Continue to be the change you want to see,” the note reads.
