Sudbury school boards monitoring 10 active cases of COVID-19

There are 10 active cases of COVID-19 at local schools in Greater Sudbury and surrounding districts.

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board has five confirmed cases, including three at St. Charles College in Sudbury and two at Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary School in Hanmer.

An outbreak has been officially declared at St. Charles College as a result of the cases.

According to a chart posted to the school board’s website, two classes have been closed at St. Charles and six classes have been closed at Bishop Alexander Carter.

Both schools remain open for in-person learning.

The Rainbow District School Board is reporting one outbreak and three active cases in local schools.

One case of COVID-19 was confirmed in a student at Lasalle Secondary School and two cases were reported at R.L. Beattie Public School earlier this week.

The outbreak was declared at R.L. Beattie on Sept. 15.

Both schools remain open for in-person learning.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario reported two active cases of COVID-19 on Sept. 16.

One of the cases was reported at École catholique La Renaissance in Espanola. Class 8A is self-isolating.

The second case was reported at École Ste-Marie in Azilda. One kindergarten class is self-isolating as a result.

The Sudbury Star was unable to confirm whether any cases have been reported at Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario.

The Sudbury Student Services Consortium reported new bus cancellations early Thursday.

The morning secondary portion of bus routes N432 and N418, in addition to the afternoon secondary portion of bus routes N305 and N437, have been cancelled due to a COVID-19 exposure.

These bus routes serve students at Bishop Alexander Carter and École secondaire Hanmer.

The morning elementary bus routes N418 and N437, serving students at Redwood Public School and St. Anne School, have been cancelled due to a bus driver shortage.

An additional six bus routes were cancelled earlier this week due to COVID-19 exposures. These include:

• The morning secondary portion of bus route N506 serving students at St. Charles College and College Notre-Dame.

• The morning elementary portion of bus route L818 affecting students at R.L. Beattie, Algonquin Public School, and Holy Cross School.

• The morning secondary run on route N513 affecting St. Charles College students.

• The afternoon secondary run on route N510 affecting St. Charles College Students.

• The morning elementary run on route N458 affecting R.L. Beattie students.

• The afternoon elementary run on route L812 affecting students at R.L. Beattie and Algonquin Public School,

Also, parents should note that bus route L812 is cancelled until further notice.
