Surfer Who Lost His Leg In 'Crazy' Shark Attack Says He'll 'Be Back in the Water in No Time'
"I went through a crazy shark attack (biggest shark I’ve ever seen) which was a very crazy scene and scared the living f--- out of me," said Kai McKenzie
An Australian surfer who lost a leg in a vicious shark attack has vowed to make a quick return to the water — even without a limb.
Kai McKenzie's right leg was completely severed after a shark attacked him while he surfed at North Shore Beach in Port Macquarie on the morning of Tuesday, July 23.
According to a GoFundMe set up by his neighbor, the 23-year-old managed to fight the animal off and catch a wave back to the beach where a "retired police officer used his dog’s lead as a tourniquet to stem the bleeding."
The Port Macquarie Hastings ALS Lifeguards confirmed in a social media post that lifeguards responded to a "serious shark attack" where "on arrival members of public were rendering assistance by using makeshift tourniquets."

As McKenzie received medical assistance, his leg washed ashore, causing doctors to figure out whether they could reattach it, reported the BBC and 9 News.
Nearly a week after the incident, however, Mckenzie posted an Instagram photo showing that his leg had not been reattached.
"Spot something missing?" wrote McKenzie next to a group photo on Monday, July 29.
"Hahah, so good to have so many amazing people behind me I really appreciate it, love this crew so much thanks for coming yesterday 💖 and to all the donations f------ unreal love you guys the links in my bio is g you’d like to donate."
In a separate Instagram post, he gave his perspective on the incident for the first time, writing, "A few days ago I went through a crazy shark attack ( biggest shark I’ve ever seen ) which was a very crazy scene and scared the living f--- out of me."
The surfer further expressed his gratitude for the support he's received, adding, "We are so very grateful for everything. I can tell you now if you know my personality this means f--- all. I’ll be back in that water In no time ! BIG F--- OFF TO THAT SHARK and BIG THANKS to Steve for saving my life."

McKenzie, who is a sponsored surfer, had only recently returned to surfing after fracturing his neck. He also broke his back last year, according to an Instagram post from his surf team, RAGE.
