Surrey, B.C., man, 63, charged with slashing 480 SkyTrain seats

A 63-year-old Surrey, B.C., man who used to do contract maintenance work for TransLink has been charged after allegedly slashing nearly 500 SkyTrain seats.

Terald Nicholas Gorecki has been charged with mischief over $5,000.

Transit police say the fabric of 480 seats was cut with a box cutter between August and November, and that the cost to repair the seats would be over $45,000.

Transit police said that Gorecki had ready access to the SkyTrain cars during that time period, and that officers reviewed hundreds of hours of surveillance video tape as part of the investigation.

Gorecki is due back in court in February.

In the meantime, he has been ordered not to be on any transit property, or possess knives or other sharp instruments outside of his residence.
