UPDATE, March 2, 2021: The third youth suspect in the attack has now been arrested after turning themselves in to police, according to Surrey RCMP. All three suspects remain in police custody and will appear in court on Tuesday.

Surrey RCMP are investigating an assault with a weapon that injured a youth at a high school in the Newton area on Monday morning.

Police responded to a call at Panorama Ridge Secondary at approximately 11:30 a.m. PT.

Officers say a male youth was injured outside of the school. He was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.

Later on Monday, investigators said three suspects were identified in relation to the attack. Two have been arrested, while officers continue to search for the third.

Ongoing dispute

All of the suspects are youth and were not previously known to police, RCMP say.

Investigators believe the assault is related to an ongoing dispute among people known to each other and the incident is not related to gang activity.

Police say there is no indication of a further safety risk at the school but there will be an increased police presence as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or, if they want to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
