Suspect arrested for assault in St. John's home, was wanted on outstanding warrant

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was called out to an assault in progress at a home on Hoyles Avenue in St. John's at 4:45 a.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived at the scene, they arrested a man, 47, for assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and various breaches of court orders.

Police said the accused had been brandishing a knife.

Additionally, the RNC said there was an outstanding arrest warrant for the man, and as a result of the warrant and the other charges, he was held in custody for a court appearance on Sunday.

Police said the two victims, both women, did not require any medical attention.
