Moose Jaw police have charged a 33-year-old man with second-degree murder after a man died from stab wounds.

Police say they were called to the zero block of Stadacona Street West at about 3:20 p.m. CST Wednesday after a report of an assault.

Officers and EMS found Shaun Holmes, 33, who had been stabbed. Police say Holmes died at the scene.

An investigation led officers to a home on the 400 block of Ominica Street East, where they found 33-year-old Vincent Picken.

Police say Picken barricaded himself inside of the home.

After making "extensive efforts" to get him to surrender, police say they got help from the RCMP Emergency Response Unit.

RCMP officers entered the home at about 3:00 a.m. CST on Thursday and arrested the 33-year-old suspect without further incident.

Picken has since been charged with second-degree murder and several breaches of court orders.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Moose Jaw police.
