Two in custody after apparent road rage on Interstate 10 in South MS, authorities say

Breaking news

Two suspects are in custody after an apparent road rage on Interstate 10 in Jackson County left one person injured and closed all eastbound lanes Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Two people involved in the incident are in custody, said Bailey Martin, the press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Landon Orozco said Wednesday that shots were fired during the apparent road rage. Martin said one person suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident involved two cars, Orozco said.

It occurred on I-10 between Exit 50 and 57, Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter said.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said a crash just after 4 p.m. Wednesday on I-10 at Exit 57 had blocked all eastbound lanes. An MDOT traffic map showed backups at 5 p.m. Wednesday in eastbound and westbound lanes near Gulf Hills. All lanes have reopened.

MBI is investigating the “alleged ‘road rage incident,’” Martin said Thursday morning.

MBI did not immediately identify the suspects in custody or respond to questions about possible charges or what kind of weapons may have been involved in the incident. Ledbetter and Orozco said no further information was available.

“Due to this being an ongoing investigation, no further comment will be made at this time,” Martin said Thursday morning.
