Suspect in shooting at Alberta Haliburton facility a former employee

A man who allegedly fired shots at a Haliburton facility north of Grande Prairie is a former employee of the company, RCMP said Wednesday.

RCMP were called to the facility in Clairmont around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports a man had entered the site and was firing a rifle.

Businesses around the area were placed on lockdown and police closed nearby roads to contain the scene. Police were able to negotiate with the man and he was arrested just before midnight.

Two employees were hiding inside but were not hurt.

RCMP say a handgun and assault-style rifle were seized at the scene. They also discovered damage including broken windows and a broken water line.

A 58-year-old man is facing a number of firearms charges.
