Suspect sought in bizarre goat-slash attacks near Chilliwack, B.C.

A trio of pet goats attacked with a sharp object are the third "sick" attack on farm animals near Yarrow, a rural area near Chilliwack, B.C.

Sandra Battilana believes somebody got to her goats through the back part of her property between Oct. 12 and 13 and jumped a barbed wire fence.

She found two goats suffering cuts and what appear to be stab wounds. The third goat has disappeared.

"My female goat — she's got slash marks all up and down her chest. My male goat has stab wounds on his hindquarters," she said.

"I was horrified. They're my pets."

While searching for the third goat, Lil Dude — who has vanished, she found a large knife in her field and saved it for police.

Her remaining goats, Diane and Battles, remain skittish but are healing.

Battilana and her daughter now only go into the yard at night in pairs and lock up all the animals for safety.

Other attacks?

They're not the only farm in the Yarrow area with fears.

Battilana said her neighbour also reported an incident with goats that died. She believes they were poisoned by a stranger who came onto their property.

And on Oct. 6 there were reports to police from another Boundary Road farm about some sheep that were attacked.

Yarrow residents describe the small area as a "proud farming community," and expressed horror over the reports.

"There are fears of a sick mind running around in the evenings wielding a knife slaying livestock," said Brian Chilibeck of the Yarrow Community Happenings group on Facebook.

"There are three reports on the same road, different in nature, but an attack on goats and sheep."

RCMP confirmed that they are looking into all three incidents involved livestock, but did not have details at this time.
