A man was stabbed to death Wednesday morning in what police say was a targeted attack at a home in the northwest Calgary neighbourhood of Panorama Hills.

EMS responded to a call that a man had been stabbed at a home in the 200 block of Panatella Court N.W. around 10:45 a.m., police said in a news release.

The victim had died before EMS arrived. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect, who had already fled the scene.

Police said they believe the crime was targeted, and the suspect and victim knew each other.

"It is still extremely early in the investigation," said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta of the Calgary Police Service's homicide unit.

"Our detectives are working very quickly to locate a potential suspect and we are asking anyone who has information to come forward."
