Suspect sought after burning package found at Kelowna's Orchard Park

RCMP in Kelowna, B.C., are looking for a suspect who left a suspicious package at a Sears store yesterday afternoon, triggering an evacuation of the entire Orchard Park Mall.

Police says the suspicious package was examined and destroyed and they are now seeking the public's help identifying who may have left the item in the store.

Cpl. Joe Duncan said the package was on fire when it was found by a store employee, who put it out before calling the RCMP.

Duncan would not reveal the contents of the package, but did say there were no explosives inside.

"It was described to me as about the size of a lunch box in a nylon material," Duncan said.

"Apparently the contents that were in there made it suspicious. There were no explosives in the package. So I won't say bomb because there were no explosives."

The suspect is described as:

- White.

- Five-feet nine-inches to six-feet tall.

- Average build.

- Wearing glasses.

- Dark jacket.

- Dark baseball cap with white lettering on the front.

- Dark backpack.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
