Suspicious fire destroys a building at shipbuilding museum

RCMP are investigating a fire that destroyed a building used to hold some of the displays at the Green Park Shipbuilding Museum.

Firefighters were called to the site at around 4 a.m. Sunday. They said it appears the fire was deliberately set, noting it looks like someone also tried to set the building next to it on fire.

Officials with the P.E.I. Museum and Heritage Foundation said the building that was destroyed dates back to the late 1800s and was filled with reproductions of tools and equipment that would have been used to make large sails.

The chief of the Tyne Valley Fire Department noted there have been several suspicious fires in the area over the last couple of weeks.
