Suspicious Williams Lake house fire leaves 2 dead

19-year-old man arrested in connection with threat against Perth-Andover school

Two people are dead following a house fire at a mobile home park in Williams Lake early Thursday and police believe the fire may have been deliberately set.

The fire was one of two suspicious fires that broke out within minutes of each other at the same mobile-home park on Broadway Avenue.

RCMP and firefighters arrived at just after 3 a.m. Thursday to find one mobile home fully engulfed in flames. People inside that home managed to escape uninjured.

It was then that emergency crews noticed another mobile home on fire nearby, said Cpl. Madonna Saunderson of the North District RCMP.

"Sadly, two occupants of that house did not survive," she said.

2 bodies found inside mobile home

"We did try to make entrance but we weren't able to. The fire was well on its way," said Rob Warnock, the deputy chief of the Williams Lake Fire Department.

He said when firefighters were able to knock the fire down and enter the home, they discovered the two victims inside.

He believes the two people may have been sleeping at the time of the fire.

The names, genders and ages of the victims have not been released.

Both fires are being called suspicious.

The RCMP and the Williams Lake Fire Department continue to investigate.
