Sussex eyes $30M seniors development

Sussex Mayor Marc Thorne said a proposed seniors development would be important for his town.

Sussex is being asked to approve a zoning change that could see $30-million commercial and residential development for seniors be constructed in the town.

Sussex Mayor Marc Thorne said the proposed development would bring both jobs and an increased tax base to the town.

“This is just an incredible opportunity for the Town of Sussex,” he said.

“It's bigger than the monetary investment. It is a tremendous opportunity for the province because we do have a shortage of housing for seniors at all levels."

The proposal includes apartments, condos, a hotel and other commercial businesses.

The town will have to change a zoning bylaw to accommodate the mixed-development.
