Sussex farm equipment store fire 'deliberately set,' police say

The Sussex RCMP say the Sunday morning fire that caused extensive damage to Arbing Equipment Ltd. was "deliberately set."

RCMP Cpl. Manon Mackenzie said in a statement police are investigating a "suspected arson" and are asking the public for information that could help in the investigation.

Police responded to a report of a fire at the farm equipment store shortly after 6 a.m. on Sunday.

Mackenzie said the fire caused extensive damage to the main building, a pickup truck parked out front of the building and two nearby farm tractors.

On Sunday, Sussex Fire chief Harold Lowe said when fire crews arrived, an intense fire was burning in the front office area of the building.

Crews from neighbouring fire departments, including Penobsquis, Norton, Hammond-Jefferies and Millstream, helped battle the fire.

Police are asking anyone with information, or who may have seen anyone in the vicinity of the business in the early morning hours of Feb. 21, to contact the Sussex RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
